3D modelling

Before making any 3D models I thought it might be a good idea to buy some 3D models on the asset store for the prototype stage of the game development, I used the Synty studios starter pack

I then wrote down a to–do list of 3D models that I had to make for the game, but I split them into different categories so that It’ll be easier to know which is which.

The to-do list went like this.

  • House 1
  • House 2
  • House 3
  • Shop 1
  • Shop 2
  • Shop 3

  • Lamps
  • Bridge

  • Mountain 1
  • Mountain 2
  • Land 1
  • Land 2
  • Tree 1
  • Tree 2
  • Tree 3
  • Dirt patch

  • Tomato
  • Aubergine
  • Potato
  • Carrots
  • Pumpkin
  • Tomato cultivated
  • Aubergine cultivated
  • Potato cultivated
  • Carrots cultivated
  • Pumpkin cultivated

After that I have written down my to-do list, It was time to start making the 3D models, I don’t want to spend all my time making 3D models when I can be doing other more important things so I need to make these 3D models quickly as possible, so to do that I divided the 28 assets into 4 which, so this means I have 4 days to make 28 assets and make 8 assets per day.

I first started making the houses and shops in the game by creating a house and shop base, then I put another cube on top of that to make a roof, and then I used a smaller cube to make a chimney. Then cut another cube’s face to make a window, then enlarged another cube to make a door. I used the same process for the other 3D models of shops and houses.

After creating the houses and shops I then created the environment assets, this didn’t take that long to make because all I needed to be to make a plane was randomise the polygons to make the terrain for the land and mountains. For the trees I use UV sphere and decimated the polygons, I also used some of the Synty studio tree assets as well. By the end of the first day, I made about 16 assets.

For the second day, I focused on making the vegetables and the object models. For the lamp, I circle and changed the size faces to 5 so it would look like a heptagon, then I made moved it upwards so it would look like a lamp. For the vegetables I decimated the UV sphere, when it came to vegetable cultivation, I brought the dirt patch model and then put vegetables onto each patch.

Within 2 days I have made all the 3D models in the game which is quite surprising because I thought it would take a week at least to make them all. But before putting all the assets into the game I want to make sure that all the mechanics and gameplay that I want to use in the game so I made some rough grey assets of the same assets that I already made.

The plan now is to create the grey box level, and then start making the level themselves, because I don’t have a lot of time to make this.

After creating the final 3D assets I then went on to create the same assets but in greyscale.

This is the assets in greyscale level

These are the assets in the final design
